October 2008 Geothermal extends to the Yurt: Check out the work on the Geothermal unit for the Yurt. We finally have an efficient way to heat and cool the yurt for the first time since we built it in 2001.

September 2008 The Geothermal Heating and Air Conditioning System Gets Installed: The New and Interesting continues when Craig and Lisa decide to install a Geothermal system in their home to, once again, lessen their energy consumption. They brought in Clay Doyle and the folks of Geothermal Solutions from Theodore, Alabama to install this new system and the results are very exciting! They have been using the Air Conditioning System for 30 days and have used 70 kilowatts compared to the estimated 1000 kilowatts that would have been used by their Central Air System~! Pretty cool stuff!

August 2008 The New Herb Garden: Craig and Lisa have started yet another project: fencing in a large area near the house to create a true Herb garden so that Middle Earth can expand its horizons once again- this time into the world of all natural salves and healing elements.

August 2008 New Baby Ducks: FINALLY some new babies ducks survive the wild countryside of Middle Earth. Craig and Lisa built a little sanctuary for the 2 babies and momma and they seem to be doing well. Meanwhile the other ducks enjoyed the rain from Storm Fay.

August 2008 The Middle Earth Bees give their first honey: Craig and Lisa take the next step in the process of learning how to work with bees: extracting their honey! Take a look at the long, but interesting process of working with the bees and their amazing creation: HONEY!

July 2008 The 2nd Greenhouse gets covered!: Craig and some volunteers took it into their own hands to cover the 2nd greenhouse and make some pretty nifty doors!

April 2008 New Greenhouse Project developments: Craig and some volunteers have worked long and hard to assemble the watercatchment and solar water pump system for the greenhouses. Here are some photos of the grueling process of electrical wiring, etc.

March 2008 The Swarms have arrived...: and in a good way! Middle Earth welcomes their newest inhabitants: the Bees! Craig and Lisa learn as the go-giving the bees a new home and helping them to adjust!

February 2008 Spring Has Sprung!: Yes, that's right, with the ever helpful presence of Julia and Charles Yelton, Middle Earth has made a great head start moving into the first growing season of the year! Not only has the kitchen garden started to sprout some lettuce leaves, but there is a plethora of seedlings in the greenhouse, and 1000s of new strawberry plants are now keeping the swailing intact around the greenhouses!
